Happy New Year Londoners! Whether you’re planning a Big Move to the Big Smoke, or are a long term resident of our incredible city, there’s lots to look forward to in 2015.
In our January round up we’ll be taking a look at all sorts of buzz and brilliant stuff happening in London Town right here, right now. From bold, dynamic art on the living walls of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, to a romantic spin on the London Eye – we’ve found tonnes of awesome stuff to see and do in your favourite city over the coming weeks…
Bold, Living Walls at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park
Moniker Projects & Create have teamed up with artist Mark McClure to create vivid, 210 foot art work to bedeck Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Made from discarded materials from the park’s construction, along with refuse from nearby film sets and redevelopments, this exciting project is a geometric, multi-textured treat for the eyes. Awesome public art at its best!
Local design buffs Tent London undertook a fascinating interview with Mark (and feature a smorgasbord of other great London art and design on their beautiful site). If you’re out and about in Stratford soon, a saunter around the grounds of the Olympic Park is well worth the detour.
Love All Around this Valentine’s Day
Do you have the perfect Valentine’s Day surprise planned for the 14th February? Or are you terrifyingly short on ideas? If you fall into the latter, clueless camp, worry not! The London Eye has a range of great packages for loved up twosomes, from the decadent “Cupid’s Capsule” to the less extravagant (but still lovely) champagne experience. There’s loads of loved up stuff you can give a whirl in London, but this is a pretty good place to start!
Here Comes the Bride: 20th-22nd February
And if all of that romance results in one very special question, the National Wedding Show in Olympia couldn’t be better timed. Taking place over the weekend of the 20th-22nd January at Olympia London, the dazzling show will feature thousands of dresses and tonnes of unique venues, alongside matrimonial inspiration, advice and services from more than 250 premier exhibitors. Whether you’re a maid-of-honour or bride-to-be, this is the perfect chance to envision your dream Big Day.
London A Cappella Festival: January 2015
Of course, not all of us are ready to leap down the aisle or fall madly in love. So, if you’re rather eschew the gooey stuff and try something you’ve never seen before, there are loads of opportunities to sample something new in the city this January…
Take the London A Cappella Festival, for instance, which runs from 28th-31st January at Kings Place, featuring a panoply of unaccompanied musical goodness. From The Swingles‘ rich poppy music to Anúna’s haunting melodies, there’s something brand new for you to indulge in thanks to this packed schedule. Go on, give it a go!
