What the zones mean for your move
- ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) covers all of Greater London since August 2023. Most modern vans (Euro 6 diesel, Euro 4 petrol) are compliant and pay nothing. Older vehicles pay £12.50/day.
- Congestion Charge Zone covers central London. Any vehicle entering between 7am–6pm Mon–Sun pays £15/day. Moving vans are not exempt.
- Low Emission Zone (LEZ) applies to heavier vehicles over 3.5 tonnes. Most standard moving vans fall under this threshold, but larger lorries do not.
- Plan your move time. Scheduling your move to start before 7am or after 6pm avoids the Congestion Charge entirely if crossing into central London.
